Food storage

So from my post yesterday I said I was going to Sam’s and start my food storage!

Anthony thinks it is a little crazy, but after this Monday’s family home evening lesson, I hope that he will change his heart… If not, he isn’t stopping me from doing it, it just says that I ‘m a crazy lady…..

So I was able to buy all the food recommended for the 72 hour kit… (That is A LOT of FOOD). Last night I had all the food out on the kitchen table, had the kids each got 2 zip lock bag, and they picked out their stuff: granola bars, what kind of water flavor they wanted etc….,We ended up filling a bin and 6 back packs.. I am going to have to go to Kmart today and buy like 2 huge bins for clothes and blankets, and I have NO idea how we are going to get all this stuff out FAST if we need it… (It is a little crazy)…

So in my 1 year supply, I thought I would have stuff left from my 72 hour kit, but really I only have a thing of laundry soap, vanilla, back up juice, and syrup.. I really thought my closet would be a lot fuller… I can totally see how someone can go into debt trying to buy everything that they need all at once! (I am going to have to go month to month)!

The remainder of the month I need to work on 700 lbs of wheat…. (Where am I going to put it)?

Shampoo, Light bulbs, toothbrushes, tooth paste, shaving supplies, disinfectant, aluminum and back up diapers & wipes….. Oh yes… And we need LOTS of WATER….

My goal is, once I get all of this stuff, I will learn to cook with it, and replenish my supply monthly, so it won’t go to waste! And so we can learn to eat A lot healthier ……

Recipes and ideas would be GREAT!

*One Year Preparedness plan*

I have decided what I am going to do with all my free closet space… Something I should have started months ago…

Work on my 1 year food storage!

A friend of mine sent me an email today,

It’s an outline of what we need to do month buy month

So by the end of the year we will have bought all our stuff that we need if emergency happens….

And not only that, but to work on our Spiritual Goal, and Provident Living goal…

I am going to just jump right into it, and not wait until Jan… This month is pretty easy.

Example

Nov:

“The time will come that gold will hold no comparison in value to a bushel of wheat”.

President Brigham Young…

Spiritual Goal:

Have personal prayer and scripture study every day.

Provident Living goal:

Make a goal to reduce your family garbage by recycling more.

Storage goal:

100 lbs of wheat per person

1 can of concentrated juice mix with vitamin c

Hand and shower soap

Shampoo

Light bulbs

And at least one month prescription medication

I will be going to Sam’s Club ASAP….

I have cleaned out all my closets in my house, and even though things are tight, I am sure I can squeeze in a year worth of food… (I hope)
